Sometimes you’ll get unsolicited text messages on your phone trying to sell you something. It’s a good idea to ignore these and never click any of the links on them. If it’s something that seems to have appeared out of no where, dont trust it, delete it.
These are calling phishing attacks, it’s where hackers lurk under the metaphorical bridge and they try to “phish” you with their metaphorical phishing line. (the ph in phishing is pronounced like fishing for a reason)
You’ll probably get unsolicited texts out of no where from companies/websites that you actually deal with. Though a lot of the time these cant be trusted either. They have fake urls that if you clicked on you’re phone could be hacked espeicly if it’s running an older version of android or iOS. If you ever have any doubts try typing the url into your web browser that you know is legit or use the app from the company that you actually use.
Far as I know most companies dont use text messages anyways. Also, keep in mind what channel of communication you agreed to communicate with these companies.
Be careful what links you click because even if they look legit, hackers can mask a url ending up somewhere else with UTF8. Even if it looks fine, it actually end up somewhere else. A malware infection can occur or if you enter information on a fake form it’ll steal your information.
