Most people that grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia are stuck up, know nothings that rather talk behind each others back rather than get to know people. They tend to be judgemental, a lot of them seem to have a grade 6 education how they judge people and jump to conclusions. I know this by what I've overheard and a lot of the people that I've talked to over the years. They are very two faced and if they dont like you they never say it to your face, they tend to say it behind your back.
I'm not from here. For some reason Dad decided to move here and brought me here. If I had the sense I would probably have moved somewhere else a long time ago. Not only a lot of the people you come accross who judge you without giving you a chance and back stab. The random people around town that are from other places in the world are a lot easier to talk to.
Since I've moved a lot around the years I'm a bit of an oddball here. and it's weird considering the fact I've lived in Halifax the longest. Since my family is from the states I cant help having a little bit of a new england accent that slips in to my speech sometimes. People judge me for it.
When I tell people where I'm from and some of the places I've lived I've been called things like "gypsy nigger" even though I'm mostly white. That made absolutely no sense. Some people do move a lot
not everyone lives in one place all their lives. Wtf is a gypsy anyways?
One time I met a guy on the street in the north end. He said to me "it looks like you have a little nigger in ya, lets fight" he knocks off my glasses and I bend over and pick them up. Then he bowed to me. I told someone about this interaction one time and the lady said "sounds like he's got his cultures mixed up" That guy is just an example of the kind of behaviour that's normal here. Most of the time I'm not judged by how I look but how I talk. I think that guy mustve been high on something since why would you call a guy that's mostly white the n word? makes absolutely no sense.
I can take the random idiots, but there's more wrong with Halifax than that. I'm on disability, so I dont get much money to live on. For some odd reason increasingly, apartments have been getting a lot more scarce and a lot more expensive here. A lot of the time living here I had to rent rooms and in rooming houses it's ussually riddled with drug addicts. So it was hard for me to find a stable place to live.
Even if I could find a stable place to live, there arent very many jobs here. Not being able to afford a place to live a lot of the time and the substandard places I've had to live made it hard to be gainfully employed. A lot of the time I've had to live with my dad.
what I dont understand, considering there isnt much in Halifax why is housing so expensive? It makes absolutely no sense. Then people suggest I get into public housing. That takes months even years to get into as there arent many public housing units around, ussually seniors get first dibs.
Dad got a public housing unit. When he told me the rent I thought he was mistaken. $600
something. i think he has rent geared to income, most people
that live in the building are seniors.
